Why Hire an Arborist?

An arborist is a specialist in the care and needs of trees. Pruning large trees can be difficult and dangerous. An arborist is a skilled professional who is trained and equipped to perform accepted practices and work safely in your tree. Neglect or improper tree care can seriously harm your tree and result in a significant liability.

Note: We do estimates for tree pruning and removals free of charge.

Tree Pruning

Most urban landscape trees require some corrective pruning to develop proper form and safe branch structure. A young tree given regular attention (every 3 to 5 years) has a much greater chance of staying healthy and vigorous to become a heritage for decades (even centuries) to come. Older mature trees generally require a "house cleaning" type of maintenance to maintain their overall health and safety. We recommend removing no more than 25% of the crown for any mature tree. We also will not "top" or pollard a tree because of the extensive negative effect this has on its future health.

Common reasons for pruning are as follows:

  • corrective leader and branch training of young trees
  • removing crowded, crossing or rubbing branches
  • eliminate potential hazards by removing deadwood and stubs
  • structure corrections to reduce storm and wind damage
  • clearing buildings, roofs, chimneys, etc.
  • removing limbs damaged by adverse weather conditions

Tree Removal

Although tree removal is a last resort, there are circumstances when it is necessary. We will be pleased to advise you with the options concerning your tree's condition.

A removal includes rigging or felling as safety dictates, brush chipping, wood removal, cleanup and raking of the site. We will also pre-cut the firewood (to 16" lengths) to leave on site if you wish.

Stump Removal

Grinding a stump

Most stumps take many years to decompose and frequently cause havoc to recreation and maintenance equipment. We grind stumps down 15+ cm deep, remove the mulch and rake the area clean.
